Mountain Dearborn Sponsors 23rd Annual Friendly House Galaxy of Stars

Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP will sponsor the 23rd Annual Nick Manzello-Ronald “Sonny” Stultz Friendly House Galaxy of Stars banquet at the Manor Restaurant in West Boylston at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017.

The Galaxy is Friendly House’s signature event to raise funds for their Youth, Teen and Family Programming, Christmas presents and their Annual Children’s Christmas Party. The event also honors local community leaders who exemplify Friendly House’s mission and reflect the generosity of the Galaxy founder, Nick Manzello, and Friendly House champion Ronald “Sonny” Stulz.

Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP will sponsor the 12th Annual Spring Auction to benefit the Nativity School of Worcester, on Friday, March 31, 2017. The Auction will be hosted at the Nativity School, 67 Lincoln Street, Worcester, from 5:30-8:00 p.m.

All proceeds will support the Nativity School, which provides students from low-income homes the opportunity to achieve academic excellence. In existence for 12 years, the School has fostered students’ success and enabled them to gain admission to top-notch high school and college programs.

Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP will join Worcester County Orthopedics as a lead corporate sponsor for the 60th Annual Emerald Club Gala on Saturday, March 11, 2017. The celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Wachusett Country Club, 197 Prospect Street in West Boylston.

Mountain Dearborn has very strong ties to the Emerald Club, which is dedicated to raising funds for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. The Club was founded in the 1950’s by several prominent Irish-Americans, including former Worcester Mayor James D. O’Brien, Sr. His son, James D. O’Brien Jr., one of the firm’s partners, served as President of the Club in the 1980’s. The Emerald Club’s current President is another partner, Paul C. Foley. ...

Attorneys Katherine A. Bagdis of Worcester and Robin DeAugustinis of Harvard have been named partners of Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP.

Katie is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and Suffolk University Law School. She has practiced with the firm since her admission to the Massachusetts Bar in November of 2010. She concentrates in family law, litigation and appellate practice. Katie is an active member of several organizations, including the Worcester County Bar Association, the Worcester Public Library (Member), the Worcester Public Library Foundation (Trustee) and Preservation Worcester (Clerk).

MDW Bake Sale Raises $1,000 and Awareness for Breast Cancer Research

What better day than Halloween to sell treats and sweets for a good cause? For many office workers in the Guaranty Building, a special bake sale organized by Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP staff to raise funds for breast cancer research was a welcome midday surprise on October 31.

Our own Barbara Burtt, administrative legal assistant, coordinated a team of MDW bakers, arranged for a table in the Guaranty Building lobby, and enlisted volunteers to staff the table, all “to make a difference in a simple yet important way.” Office staff from Guaranty Management contributed baked goods, as well.

Barbara was inspired by a news story on WCVB-TV about office bake sales during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. ...

Denholms Department Store, 484 Main Street in Worcester, was once a premier retail shopping venue that sold fine clothing and all the latest fashions. More than forty years have passed since Denholms bustled with activity, but longtime Greater Worcester residents still have fond memories of shopping excursions with their parents or grandparents. The December 10 event will recreate some of the spark and sparkle that once distinguished Denholms Department Store.

Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP is proud to sponsor Celebrate 65 Years of Legal Aid in Worcester County, on Thursday, October 27. Congressman Jim McGovern will host the fundraiser at Tuckerman Hall, 10 Tuckerman Street, Worcester, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The evening will include music by The Annulments, surprise VIP guests, as well as a silent auction and live auction. All proceeds will support Community Legal Aid in Worcester County, which provides legal services to individuals who might otherwise not be able to afford an attorney for assistance with issues such as evictions, foreclosures, domestic violence, unfair consumer practices and access to disability benefits.

A Milestone Birthday for Richard W. Dearborn

On August 12, we gathered here to celebrate the 96th birthday of our senior partner, Richard W. Dearborn. The event took place at our office because that is where Mr. Dearborn has spent almost every workday since joining the firm in 1952.

Mr. Dearborn has devoted his career to providing exemplary service to individuals, banks and corporations, both small and large. Although his direct client responsibilities have lessened, he continues to provide us with guidance and inspiration. Mr. Dearborn exemplifies the very best of the legal profession. We wish him continued good health, and many more days in the office, during his 97th year. ...

Katherine Bagdis Named to Worcester Public Library Board of Directors

Attorney Katherine Bagdis, an associate at Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting LLP, has joined the Worcester Public Library Board of Directors. Her nomination to a three-year term was accepted by the Worcester City Council on June 21, 2016.

The Board of Directors is the Library’s governing body, overseeing hiring of the head librarian, setting library policies that ensure equal access to information and the free exchange of ideas, and overseeing management and maintenance, among other responsibilities.

Before joining the Board of Directors, Katie began serving on the Board of the Worcester Public Library Foundation Board, which is responsible for fundraising and for enhancing the public visibility of the Library.

Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting, LLP, will serve as a major sponsor for The Q–Ryan Quinn Memorial Golf Tournament, to be held this year on Monday, July 11.
