As former Chief Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Judge Swartwood brings to the firm more than 50 years of trial experience. A trial lawyer with Mountain, Dearborn & Whiting from 1964–1993, he specialized in complex business cases.
While serving as a federal judge from 1993–2006, he presided over numerous trials and mediated more than 100 cases involving disputes over contracts; business/commercial law; employment; civil rights; copyright, trademark and patents; personal injury; product liability; ERISA; insurance; and construction.
Well-respected for his ability to resolve challenging conflicts, Judge Swartwood is known for his insight, sensitivity and knowledge of the law, as well as his skill at managing complex discovery disputes. He has been Of Counsel to the firm since 2006, concentrating in complex case evaluations.
