Charles B. Swartwood III

As former Chief Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Judge Swartwood brings more than 50 years of trial experience to the firm’s clients. A trial lawyer with Mountain Dearborn from 1964–1993, he handled complex business cases. He re-joined the firm as Of Counsel in 2006, concentrating in complex case evaluations. Well-respected for his ability to resolve some of the most challenging conflicts, Judge Swartwood is known for his insight, sensitivity and knowledge of the law, as well as his skill at managing complex discovery disputes.

While serving as a federal judge from 1993–2006, he presided over numerous trials and mediated more than 100 cases involving disputes over contracts; business/commercial law; employment; civil rights; copyright, trademark and patents; personal injury; product liability; ERISA; insurance; and construction.
